Lara Guide Dog School
Finding Inspiration in Every Step
Lara Guide-Dog School was born in 2008 with one mission.
To improve the lives of people who are blind in Greece.
Our school is a member of the European Guide Dog Federation (EGDF), and an associate member of the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF), and is supported entirely by private donations.
The School was named after 'Lara', the first official guide-dog in Greece.
Our Story
We found ourselves sipping the traditional mouth-watering frappe on a Greek beach, soaking in the blistering sun and talking – three people who changed each other's lives, forever.
Ioanna Maria Gkertsou, a sassy, awe-inspiring blind woman, was on the lookout to make a change to the lives of blind people in Greece. Lia Stoll, a guide dog mobility instructor, and disability writer was looking to make guide dogs in Greece a reality. And, Christos Georgiopoulos, a financial advisor with a passion to help.
We quickly became friends, and joined forces to create the first guide dog school for the blind in Greece. Lara Guide Dog School for the Blind.
